To research possible connections between travel destinations and the newest fashion trends, I took a look at the September Fashion Week in Milan, featuring popular and innovative designers such as Donatella Versace and Anna Sui and traced some of their ideas to customs of a particular region. From this, I searched flight interests in google trends for these places over the last 3 years to see if there was a possible correlation.
Anna Sui, who is Chinese American got her ideas from traditional Russian materials.
This graph shows the flight interest in Russia over the past three years. There is a sudden spike which could have influenced Anna Sui's choice of Russian fashion.
Donatella Versace’s looks, from Italy, used many animal prints and safari interpretations to resemble these three outfits:
In comparison, here are the amound of searches for Kenya flights in the past 12 months, which is a popular destination for African safaris.
Lastly, I looked at another Versace design, representative of a beach destination.
The interest in beaches, which is always pretty constant, recently spiked this year.
